Panthers claw way to win

Devils drop grand final rematch after struggling to convert chances

Isis Town and Country - - Sport -

WITH Bundaberg Rugby League sides set to play each other three times there is not as much pressure on players to deliver victory every week.

Most coaches have indicated they will focus on using the first round to tinker with line-ups, the second round to start their run and the third to (hopefully) jostle for the minor premiership.

With that in mind it is easy to look past Isis Devils’ 30-12 loss to Wests Panthers. What will be concerning for coach Simon Ricciardi was the way his players were unable to crack the Panthers’ defence after sustained pressure, as well as the ease with which Wests fired back.

It is Isis’ third consecutive loss and they have slipped to fifth on the BRL table.

Their 46-point flogging of Waves Tigers earlier this season has kept their points differential healthy but they have to stop the rot on Sunday evening against Easts Magpies.

While not a disaster, a fourth consecutive loss could make a second and third round assault on the premiership more difficult.

BREAKING THROUGH: Jake Thompson is swamped by Wests defenders as the Isis Devil tries to power through the line.
