Palace building banners removed

Isis Town and Country - - News -

THE banners on the Palace Memorial Building have been temporarily removed.

Isis District Residents and Ratepayers raised concerns at their March meeting about the banners’ effect on the heritage value of the building.

Community services spokeswoman Cr Judy Peters said the banners were erected to “promote tourist attractions within Childers and increase visitor numbers in the area”.

“Council has a general exemption certificate from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection which has determined that the aesthetic of the building would not be compromised by placement of the banner,” Cr Peters said.

“The banners were removed by council to allow for scheduled painting and maintenance work to be carried out.

“A decision regarding their replacement will be determined by council once it has had an opportunity to meet and discuss the matter further.”
