Improving our roads
$4.5M FOR ATC ROADS ISIS CENTRAL STILL WAITING CALLS FOR BUNNS RD UPGRADE
THE drive through Apple Tree Creek is set to become much safer with $4.5 million worth of road safety upgrades.
Burnett MP Stephen Bennett braved Friday’s torrential rain to share details about the project with Town & Country, and said it would mean a much safer journey for motorists.
“I’m extremely pleased to see these safety upgrades get under way,” Mr Bennett said.
“Apple Tree Creek Hall Rd is one of the worst intersections in the electorate.
“Families and motorists will benefit from the projects by having a safer journey travelling home, to school, work and to their families.
“Any initiative which can prevent the tragedy of death on our roads is welcome.”
Five intersections with the Bruce Hwy are set to be improved, with Old Creek /Chews Rds, Andersen St/Rosenstat Ln, Old Creek Rd/rest area, Apple Tree Creek Hall/Duguid Rds, and Cocking St all to benefit.
Four of those are near the existing rest area and showgrounds.
The upgrades are not without consequence however, with highway access to other small roads set to be closed.
This will mean motorists will have to use the upgraded intersections, adding a small delay to travel time.
Mr Bennett said projects use cost-effective, road engineering treatments to address crash hot spots.
Transport and Main Roads have already begun a detailed design of the upgrades, which are expected to be finished by July.
