ISIS MEN AFTER the welcome rain during the week, good numbers arrived on a pleasantly cool afternoon to compete for the May Monthly Medals. Scoring was made a little difficult in the heavy conditions. In A Division Dave Robinson with 71 nett won on a countback from Michael Stanton runner-up on a countback from John Hinton, with a further rundown to visitor Geoff Loveday on 72. Curtis Fredriksen recorded the only under par score for the day winning B division with 69 nett from visitor Mick Martens on 72, rundowns going to Bob Champney and Adrian Martin on 74 each. Geoff Loveday also won the A Division pinshot on 1&10 (3.04m) and Larry Pershouse the B Division approach (0.68m), with Damien Dowling claiming the A Division pinshot on 4&13. Next Saturday members return to play a single stableford after recent single stroke competitions. WOMEN THE welcome rain on Thursday and Friday had one negative impact, washing out the women’s Thursday competition. This Thursday we will play for the May Monthly Goblet. On Saturday, Sophie Martell continued her steady form to win the May Monthly Goblet with 72 nett, from Fiona Dowling with 75 who claimed the runner-up position on a countback from Joy Cartner who won the first rundown in a countback from Joan Wright. Helen Ricciardi and Rae McCliskie won the remaining rundowns. Joan Kelly won the ladies’ approach, 0.33m from the pin on 6&15. Joy Cartner won the B-grade gross and an approach at the recent Gin Ladies’ Carnival – well done, Joy! Next Saturday we will be playing a single stableford competition. JUNIORS LAST weekend the Isis junior Pennants team played Bundaberg for the right to host the final of the Junior Pennants Comp later in the year. With some great play Isis was able to win in a close fought contest three games to two. The three players who had emphatic victories for Isis were Sophie Martell she won 6 and 5, Ben Scott won 7 and 5 and Curtis Fredriksen was victorious 4 and 3. All these three players have won all their games in the minor rounds. Will Martell and Caleb Scott had close fought losses that went to the 17th and 16th holes respectively. The Isis juniors have played well in all three minor rounds to remain undefeated. This is the second time that they have made the final in the two years that they have been back in the competition. Hopefully they can go one better than last year as they went down 3 to 2 to Bargara in last year’s final. The final will be played on Saturday June 13.Tee off time will be 7.30am. Isis was also able to field a three person 2nd team on Sunday who took on the Bargara juniors. The team of Christian Fredriksen, Cooper Burns and Wesley Hinton came home 2 to 1 winners. Well done boys. Cooper and Wesley had good wins to start their junior pennants careers. VETS CORALIE Volgyesi left all behind her when she compiled 42 points in the afternoon’s stableford competition to be the overall winner on the day. Kev Savage returned from a break to win A Division with 40 points, with Ray Walker runner-up (37) and Phil Luckett (33) 2nd runner-up. Peter Hutton won best nine holes. Chris Fitzsimons won B Division with 37 points from runner-up Ken Albion (34) and Jennifer McKay (33). Ian McKay won best nine holes. Approaches were won by Barry Steinke (0.21m) for the men; Vicki McAulay (0.04m) for the women; Kev Savage (0.29m) for the combined competition. Coralie led the Chook Run winners with 27 nett, followed by Ray Walker (32), Kev Savage and Val Plath (33), Barry Steinke and Len Stallard (34) and Chris Fitzsimons (35) on a spin. Next Tuesday we play the monthly VIP stroke competition, sponsored by Cynthia and Val with some help from their better halves. See you there for the noon start. CHILDERS SOCIAL A FINE clear morning greeted the 28 players last Sunday morning for the first game of the month and as such Mug Day. Welcome back to the Hervey Bay boys, long time no see and to our two visitors Ian and Jennifer McKay. Some sad news however when we learned that a founding member of the Social Club, when it was actually the Federal Social Golf Club, passed away on Friday. Bill Welman was a life member of the Club and our thoughts go to his family. On a brighter note the day was won by Bob Walker with a 34 and loses only two off his handicap, Scotty white was Second with 35 and loses 1.0 and third was Laurie Daiken with 36 and losing 0.5. Scotty also won the least Putts with 14 with Michael Stanton taking out the B grade Approach on the 1st. Bill Long won the B-grade Longest Drive and last but not least Hoss Eberl won the Combined nearest the Pin on the 6th. As you can see everybody had trouble on the course today with only one person coming in below par, very strange. Next week we will play a single Stableford over the back Nine, tee off at 8am Have a great week and see you on Sunday.
