Free DV workshop in Bundy on Friday

Isis Town and Country - - Kolan News -

TO COINCIDE with Domestic Violence Prevention Month, Women’s Legal Service is bringing a free workshop on domestic violence and family law to Bundaberg on Friday.

WLS community legal education lawyer Angela Lynch said the regional visit was aimed at boosting local support for women going through separation, especially those experiencing domestic violence.

“The help that’s given to regional women from services like community centres, domestic violence services and church-based groups is vital in areas such as Bundaberg,” Ms Lynch said.

“Although these services may deal with life-and-death situations, they often receive little support or professional development due to their geographic location.”

Ms Lynch said with more than 20 Queensland women dying each year as a result of domestic or family violence, the issue remains “a prevalent health, social, economic and legal problem”.

The education workshop will be held at the Uniting Care Community, 3A River Tce, from 10am-3pm. Phone 3392 0644 to book your place.
