A NUM­BER of keen golfers ar­rived to con­test the club-spon­sored sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion on a brisk au­tum­nal af­ter­noon. In A Di­vi­sion Nigel Radin with 35 points won on a count­back from Blake Dowl­ing, run­ner-up on a count­back from Ray Walker, win­ning a run­down. Bob Werne en­joyed his round record­ing 40 points, the best score of the day, win­ning B Di­vi­sion from Len Stal­lard run­ner-up on 37 points. Bill Kingston with 36 points won a run­down. Nigel (6.6m) also won the A Di­vi­sion pin­shot on 1&10, with Roger Draper (0.9m) win­ning the B Di­vi­sion ap­proach. On 4&13 Blake (5.1m) won the pin­shot, with B Di­vi­sion a skin­ner. Next Satur­day Footes Childers Phar­macy spon­sor a sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion – see you there for the 12.30pm hit-off.


LAST Thurs­day mem­bers played for the May Monthly Goblet, with Kerry Sch­nack fol­low­ing up her win of last week with a nett 69 to claim the Goblet from run­ner-up Mar­garet Dennett on 72. Run­downs went to Jen­nifer McKay, Diane Rowley and Rose Cochrane. Co­ralie Vol­gyesi (3.10m) was near­est the pin. This Thurs­day we play a two-per­son Am­brose, num­bers per­mit­ting. On Satur­day Cyn­thia Draper won the sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion with 37 points from Fiona Dowl­ing on 35 points, run­ner-up on a count­back from Mon­ica Mad­sen who claimed the best nine holes with 20 points. Run­downs went to Joan Kelly, Val Plath and He­len Ricciardi with Joan also near­est the pin on 6&15. This Satur­day we play in the Childers Phar­macy spon­sored sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion.


THE monthly V.I.P. stroke com­pe­ti­tion spon­sored by the Drap­ers and Plaths at­tracted a large num­ber of keen play­ers in the pleas­antly warm af­ter­noon. In A Di­vi­sion Kev Den­ham recorded nett 66 to edge out Phil Luck­ett on 68, fol­lowed by Nigel Radin (70), Bill Cowan (71) and Kev Sav­age (72). Vis­i­tor Max Bur­ton en­joyed his round record­ing 68, with Ken Al­bion next on 72, Len Stal­lard (73), Mark McAu­lay and Adrian Martin (74). Joan Kelly scored a nett 69 to win the Women’s Di­vi­sion from Joy Cart­ner with 72, run­ner-up on a count­back from Rose Cochrane. Run­downs went to Mon­ica Mad­sen and Diane Rowley (73). The ap­proaches were won by: Nigel Radin (0.565m) for the men on 1&10; for the women Vicki McAu­lay (0.26m) on 6&15; Kev Sav­age (0.34m) for the com­bined ap­proach on 4&13. Rusty Us­mar led the Chook Run win­ners with 29 nett, closely fol­lowed by Bob and Rose Cochrane (31), Cyn­thia Draper, Joan Kelly, Mon­ica Mad­sen and Jen­nifer McKay (31 each). Mem­bers showed their ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the gen­er­ous spon­sor­ship by the two popular vet­eran fam­i­lies. Next Tues­day we play a four ball best ball stable­ford, cap­tain’s draw favoured by mem­bers.


A CHILLY start greeted the play­ers last Sun­day morn­ing with jack­ets and vests the or­der of the day. The chill fac­tor didn’t seem to worry Do­minic Mete who man­aged a very cred­i­ble 23 wip­ing out any op­po­si­tion for first place. The down­side, at least for Domonic was that the Hand­i­cap­per was able to take 4.0 off his hand­i­cap and en­joyed ev­ery minute of it. Leigh Hart man­aged to outscore Marg Dennett to take sec­ond place with 21 and los­ing 2.5 and Marg at third los­ing 1.7. Domonic fea­tured again in the win­ners with the B-grade Ap­proach go­ing to him with Col Dennett win­ning the A-grade Near­est the Pin, the A-grade Long­est Drive and the Men’s Ap­proach on the 16th. Leigh Hart was also an­other dou­bles win­ner with the win on the B-grade Long­est Drive. We wish to wel­come Ian and Jen­nifer McKay to the So­cial Club ranks and also to say hullo to our vis­i­tor for to­day Sue Blows. It is hoped that all Moth­ers had a great day on their spe­cial day. Next week we will play a Stroke and Putt over the Front Nine and on May 24 we will be trav­el­ling to ei­ther Bund­aberg Golf Course or Oak­wood to play the first round of the tro­phy game against The Light­house So­cial Golf Club.
