Park upgrades now finished
THERE’S a new place to play and relax in Childers with the upgrade at Millennium Park done.
The revamped park, situated next to council’s new Crescent St car park, has undergone earthworks and now features pathways, swings, barbecues, covered picnic shelters and an expanded playground area.
Bundaberg Regional Council health and regulatory services spokesman Wayne Honor said council had committed $80,000 this financial year as part of the total $150,000 upgrade budget, with the second half of the upgrade scheduled to be finished next financial year.
“However with work progressing well at the site, and budget savings made through other parks and gardens projects, we were able to complete 100% of the upgrade this financial year,” Cr Honor said.
“This now completes a lovely recreation area and a wonderful community facility for residents in Childers as well as an attraction in the heart of Childers for visitors.”
Divisional representative Cr Tony Ricciardi said the proposed enhancements and extension to Millennium Park were made in recognition of its central location and would complement the existing park.
“This project was identified by the local Chamber of Commerce some time ago as a desirable means of attracting visitors to the region in addition to providing enhanced facilities for local residents,” Cr Ricciardi said.
“I would also like to acknowledge a $250 donation provided to council by St Joseph’s School in Childers about six or seven years ago to put towards any recreational development in Millennium Park.
NEW LOOK: The extension to the revamped Millennium Park was officially opened yesterday.
