Peter Warren, Childers Show Society president ... we have the woodchop back again this year.

THE local community is in for an action-packed weekend with the 99th Childers Show.

And if you thought organisers had their eye only for the 100th anniversary celebrations next year – think again.

Childers Show Society president Peter Warren said volunteers had worked tirelessly to make this year’s event memorable for young and old.

“All the work is starting to kick into gear and we’re putting the final touches on everything,” he said.

Mr Warren said school children from the region had decorated more than 800 sweet potatoes for the pavilion.

“Also, we have the woodchop back again this year,” he said.

“And by the looks of it we will have a record number of horses involved with the jumping and showing because all the stables are booked out.”

The glamorous Childers showgirls will be mingling with the crowd and there will be plenty of food to keep families energised.

Mr Warren urged locals and those from afar to sample what was on offer.

“We are looking for the support of the Childers community to help make this memorable,” he said.
