MORE than 500 signatures have been obtained for a petition to the State Government calling for funding for the hydrotherapy pool to be reinstated.

Burnett MP Stephen Bennett tabled the petition in parliament on Tuesday.

On January 12, Mr Bennett and then-Health Minister Lawrence Springborg announced $300,000 for the pool, which Isis District Residents and Ratepayers Association president John van Barneveld said was vital for the region.

Last month, Mr van Barneveld organised a protest march which brought Churchill St to a standstill as the community rallied to deliver a simple message to Labor Health Minister Cameron Dick – to give the community its pool.

“We are very pleased with the response and support we have received, including the petition,” he said.

“We will continue to make the point that of the $60 million funding that Labor has announced for health we only need 0.5% of that.”
