Shed location is the issue

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

AS MOST of the community would be aware the Isis District State High School community is currently submitting objections to the Bundaberg Regional Council regarding a development application at 3A North St. This application is for the construction of a Men’s Shed on land currently used by the high school’s agricultural program. On the street last week I was approached by a man who in no uncertain terms told me that we should let the Men’s Shed go ahead. I wish to clearly and categorically state that the school community has no objection whatsoever to the provision of a Men’s Shed for the town of Childers. Our objections are based purely on the proposed location of the shed adjacent to the Year 7 campus. The loss of this land to the school will have a significant impact on the curriculum and limit the completion of an OP subject offered at Isis High.

There are also concerns regarding noise and safety issues that may arise with traffic movement around that particular area which may have an impact on positive learning outcomes for students using that campus. I am more than happy to discuss these issues further with anyone who would like clarification at a suitable location and in a civilised
