A COOL af­ter­noon and brisk breeze wel­comed mem­bers to the club spon­sored sin­gle stroke com­pe­ti­tion where only one player bet­tered par.

John Hin­ton showed what he is ca­pa­ble of, scor­ing nett 63 to win A Di­vi­sion from Ray Walker on 73, run­ner-up on a count­back from Peter Hut­ton win­ning a run­down.

Vis­i­tor Jim Gel­ten with nett par 70 won B Di­vi­sion from Roger Draper who scored 72, run­ner-up on count­back.

Peter Hut­ton (3.32m) won the A Di­vi­sion pin­shot on 1&10, while Jim Gel­ten (0.24m) won the B Di­vi­sion ap­proach on the same hole. Ivan Philpott (0.97m) won the A Di­vi­sion pin­shot on 4&13, while the B Di­vi­sion pin­shot was a skin­ner.

In a tightly con­tested Match Play Fi­nal, Rod­ney Wa­ger and Peter Russo won from Keith Rule and Larry Per­shouse at the 19th hole. Con­grat­u­la­tions to the win­ners and com­mis­er­a­tions to the losers.

Next Satur­day the club cham­pi­onships begin.

Sadly Blake Dowl­ing won’t be able to de­fend his A Grade ti­tle but fa­ther Clin­ton and brother Damien will no doubt be ea­ger to re­claim the ti­tle.

The next two week­ends of­fers the chance for all mem­bers to com­pete in the three grades – the usual hit-off time. en­joyed a sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion, with Kerry Sch­nack record­ing 38 points to win by one point from run­ner-up Jen­nifer McKay, with Rose Cochrane win­ning best nine holes with 17 points on a count­back. Mar­garet Dennett won the ap­proach her sec­ond shot 1.58m from the hole.

This Thurs­day we will again play a sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion.

On Satur­day Co­ralie Vol­gyesi recorded 71 nett to win the sin­gle stroke com­pe­ti­tion. Val Plath was run­ner-up on 75, with run­downs go­ing to So­phie Martell and Joy Cart­ner, both on 76. So­phie (0.36m) also won the ap­proach on 4&13.

This Satur­day we begin the club cham­pi­onships which run over both week­ends. We look for­ward to as many mem­bers as pos­si­ble com­pet­ing in the dif­fer­ent grades. Hit-off is at the usual time of 12.30pm.
