A COOL afternoon and brisk breeze welcomed members to the club sponsored single stroke competition where only one player bettered par.
John Hinton showed what he is capable of, scoring nett 63 to win A Division from Ray Walker on 73, runner-up on a countback from Peter Hutton winning a rundown.
Visitor Jim Gelten with nett par 70 won B Division from Roger Draper who scored 72, runner-up on countback.
Peter Hutton (3.32m) won the A Division pinshot on 1&10, while Jim Gelten (0.24m) won the B Division approach on the same hole. Ivan Philpott (0.97m) won the A Division pinshot on 4&13, while the B Division pinshot was a skinner.
In a tightly contested Match Play Final, Rodney Wager and Peter Russo won from Keith Rule and Larry Pershouse at the 19th hole. Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the losers.
Next Saturday the club championships begin.
Sadly Blake Dowling won’t be able to defend his A Grade title but father Clinton and brother Damien will no doubt be eager to reclaim the title.
The next two weekends offers the chance for all members to compete in the three grades – the usual hit-off time. enjoyed a single stableford competition, with Kerry Schnack recording 38 points to win by one point from runner-up Jennifer McKay, with Rose Cochrane winning best nine holes with 17 points on a countback. Margaret Dennett won the approach her second shot 1.58m from the hole.
This Thursday we will again play a single stableford competition.
On Saturday Coralie Volgyesi recorded 71 nett to win the single stroke competition. Val Plath was runner-up on 75, with rundowns going to Sophie Martell and Joy Cartner, both on 76. Sophie (0.36m) also won the approach on 4&13.
This Saturday we begin the club championships which run over both weekends. We look forward to as many members as possible competing in the different grades. Hit-off is at the usual time of 12.30pm.
