Childers re­ceives $700k for last stage of streetscape

THE Childers CBD will re­ceive a $700,000 coun­cil boost to fi­nalise the last stage of the town’s streetscape project.

Coun­cil­lor Tony Ricciardi said the funds would com­plete stage six of the main street makeover and ad­dress foot­paths on both sides of Churchill St – from West and McIl­wraith Sts north to Broad­hurst St.

“In ad­di­tion to the new foot­paths, the road sur­faces in the ad­ja­cent ser­vice lanes will be lev­elled to over­come the prob­lem caused by ex­trud­ing tree roots. “

The fund­ing com­ple­ments $500,000 from the State Gov­ern­ment in the last fi­nan­cial year.

Cr Ricciardi said the up­grad­ing of the foot­paths would pro­vide a more invit­ing sur­face to at­tract shop­pers the en­tire length of the Churchill St CBD.

The Childers Pool re­ceived $50,000 fund­ing to re­place a fil­ter sys­tem.
