Childers receives $700k for last stage of streetscape
THE Childers CBD will receive a $700,000 council boost to finalise the last stage of the town’s streetscape project.
Councillor Tony Ricciardi said the funds would complete stage six of the main street makeover and address footpaths on both sides of Churchill St – from West and McIlwraith Sts north to Broadhurst St.
“In addition to the new footpaths, the road surfaces in the adjacent service lanes will be levelled to overcome the problem caused by extruding tree roots. “
The funding complements $500,000 from the State Government in the last financial year.
Cr Ricciardi said the upgrading of the footpaths would provide a more inviting surface to attract shoppers the entire length of the Churchill St CBD.
The Childers Pool received $50,000 funding to replace a filter system.
