Devils focus on defence

Isis Town and Country - - Sport -

WITH a two-week breather Isis Devils are ready to mount a second-half assault on the Bundaberg Rugby League competition.

Coach Simon Ricciardi said the side was rested ahead of its clash against Easts at Salter Oval.

“I wanted to get everyone together this week and put the first half of the season behind us,” Ricciardi said.

“It’s hard for us at the moment with work commitments to get everyone there.”

Ricciardi said the team would welcome back prop Royce Blair.

“That will be a big bonus,” he said.

The Devils sit in fourth position behind Brothers, Hervey Bay and Wests and must shore up its defence for a chance to challenge the top teams.

Last year the side finished the season with the best defensive record in the league, something it must replicate if it wants to be a part of finals footy.

“We have leaked too many points and that is something we need to work on,” he said.

“We have to get the boys together and defend as a unit.”

Ricciardi said it could not afford any lapses in concentration against Easts.

“It’s a bit of a danger game for us,” he said.

“Easts are coming off a loss and are in a similar boat to us struggling in numbers.

“I expect them to rally hard and come out strong.”

In the round’s other games Hervey Bay play Wests and Waves will meet Wallaroos.
