WE AT Flying High Bird Sanctuary were disappointed to read the article in last week’s paper with former volunteers questioning the care and health of our birds.

We are dedicated to maintaining and providing the best care possible to our birds and animals here at Flying High Bird Sanctuary.

Our animals are our number one priority above all else.

It’s unfair that one ill-informed voice has made so much noise while the rest of our amazing volunteers go unheard.

We have had an incredible array of volunteers here at the sanctuary from all over the world.

Many have stayed on much longer than their original plans because they love it here.

We have had vets, vet nurses, zoologists and people from all walks of life volunteer here.

We have our gorgeous Jess Irwin who has volunteered here for more than five years.

Jess is a local girl who works like a trojan and is a valuable member of our team.

However, not everybody is suited to caring for our birds.

One such person recently reported his concerns to Biosecurity Queensland.

Biosecurity were at the sanctuary the next day for a surprise inspection.

We welcome this impartial inspection and are pleased to be reassured we are on the correct path in the care of our animals.

We work closely with the local vets here in Childers as well as liaising with other zoos and respected animal carers such as The Twinnies.

We constantly strive to give the best care possible to our animals.

We attend as many seminars as possible to increase our knowledge base and to keep up with the latest information.

The past 12 months have been particularly difficult due to David’s health battles.

David has had numerous hospital admissions in this time and we would like to thank both the Bundaberg Hospital and the Royal Brisbane Hospital for saving his life on numerous occasions.

We are reassured by our lovely guests who have filled our guest books with lovely messages. We are reassured by our amazing volunteers.

We encourage locals to come to visit us. Come and check out our amazing birds and animals. We know you will have a lovely day.
