Grease hits the big screen at the Paragon

Isis Town and Country - - Front Page -

GREASE will be the word at the Paragon Theatre on Saturday night as the venue prepares for a busy month of entertainment.

Local band Slap Beat will hold the fort early with rock tunes while guests enjoy canapés and drinks.

Then the classic 1978 film Grease, starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, will be screened.

Paragon Theatre owner Merissa Craft said it was the beginning of an exciting June schedule for the popular Childers venue, with songwriting duo Busby Marou stopping by on its regional tour.

“When we had our grand opening at the Childers Festival I saw Busby Marou were playing Maryborough and then going straight to Gladstone,” she said.

“I contacted them and asked if on their way they wanted to stop by and see the venue.

“Tom Busby had a look through and loved it.”

Ms Craft said the Paragon Theatre’s location right on the Bruce Hwy made it easy for tours to stop on their way through.

“I guess the aim is to make the venue a part of the circuit when artists book their tours,” she said.

“We run buses to and from Bundaberg for all our events.”

Later this month, Chermside duo Melissa Western (Lissa) and Tnee Dyer (Nee Nee) will bring their popular children’s show, Adventure Time, to the Paragon Theatre.

Since their 2012 show at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the couple have gone on to perform at Powerkids (Brisbane Powerhouse), Canterbury International Arts Festival UK, Edinburgh Fringe and much more.

That evening, the couple will have a costume change and showcase their talents for more adult sensibilities with their show Sweet, Sour and Saucy.

Ms Craft said July would be a little quieter, with a potential screening of the third State of Origin game – if it’s a decider – and the Childers Festival weekend.

“We will screen the classic Italian film, Cinema Paradiso, on Saturday, July 25, as part of the Childers Festival,” she said.
