IN A win for the Childers community, the notorious Bruce Hwy and Adies Rd intersection will receive a much-needed upgrade to improve its safety.
The safety improvement works include the installation of flag lighting to improve driver awareness of the intersection and minimise the potential for conflict with turning traffic at night.
Burnett MP Stephen Bennett, who has campaigned on behalf of Adies Rd residents, said he welcomed the news.
“I’m pleased we have been able to achieve a positive result for the people of Adies Rd and of course the wider community who use this busy intersection,” he said.
“I congratulate Adies Rd residents for being proactive in bringing this to my attention and together we have been able to achieve a much safer intersection.”
Adies Rd resident Steve Gibbin said the safety upgrades were essential.
“We need it to be safer,” he said.
“I haven’t had a crash but my wife has.”
Mr Gibbin said residents were excited that their concerns had not fallen on deaf ears.
“We want to thank Stephen Bennett for what he’s done,” he said.
Mr Bennett said the minor upgrades were a great start but more needed to be done.
“I have been advised that Adies Rd intersection is being considered for wide centre line treatment under a new program the Department of Transport and Main Roads is developing,” he said.
“I eagerly await TMR’s feedback on this and am hopeful it will be approved in the near future.”
The minor roadworks are expected to be completed next week, weather permitting. The intersection is also being considered for an upgrade under the Bruce Hwy safety program.
