DEVILS HOLD NO FEAR

ISIS Devils president Bill Trevor has said on a good day his team is capable of beating any opposition in the A-grade competition of the Bundaberg Rugby League.

He is hoping that’s the case when Isis matches up against Wests Panthers at Salter Oval Sunday afternoon.

A week after losing third spot to Wests, when the Panthers trounced Easts and Isis lost to Brothers, they will be looking to regain that position following a win this weekend.

And the key to victory in the clash will be stopping Wests centre Joel Turaga.

The hulking centre played a handful of games for Isis in 2014 after leaving the 2013 Wests premiership team before being suspended for a shoulder charge.

After that suspension was served he did not play for Isis again, much to the Devils’ dismay.

His skill and strength were missed, especially in the grand final, when Isis fell just short of winning the 2014 grand final in a hard-fought game against Wests.

Turaga is back in a Wests jersey this year and after a good season debut at the weekend where he scored two tries in Wests’ 40-26 win will be looking to be one of the standouts in the game.

Trevor said there was one way to stop Turaga, which was a tried and true method.

“Get around his ankles before he gains pace,” was Trevor’s advice to the Isis players.

“When he gets within 25-30m of the line with a winger and a centre in front of him, he is hard to stop.”

Trevor also said along with Turaga, they will also lookout for the Panthers halfback and lock.

At the weekend Isis was belted after a horrendous night in front of their home crowd, as they got beaten 40-10 by Brothers.

And Trevor said the Isis stocks would be bolstered with the return of Jake Thompson and Royce Blair.

Along with the return of Thompson and Blair, Trevor said he was expecting a big game from one of the forwards.

“The team looks up to the captain, Peter Grant, because he leads from the front,” he said.

You can catch the Devils play Brothers at 3pm at Salter Oval.
