Cobbo-Riley to stiffen Seagulls back line

Isis Town and Country - - Sport -

THE addition of Curtis Cobbo-Riley to the backline will make Hervey Bay Seagulls even stronger in their march to the Bundaberg Rugby League finals.

Cobbo-Riley moved to the Seagulls from Norths Devils, and scored a try in his side’s 40-6 win over Isis Devils. Player-coach Tye Ingebrigtsen said he was excited by the prospect of the former Norths Devil.

“He was really good and has certainly made his case to keep his spot in the side,” Ingebrigtsen said.

“We had quite a few out but Curtis was outstanding in the centre.

“Kobi Page made his debut from the bench and got his job done as well.”

The Seagulls left side was extremely dominant, with second-rower Tyson Woodman, Ingebrigtsen and winger Billy Stefaniuk scoring five tries between them.

They ran rings around the depleted-Devils outfit, weakened by the absence of several A-graders.

But as the Seagulls grow in strength in other parts of the field an injury to hooker Kyle Greaves means they have now lost four men in the vital position.

“That’s become a bit of a concern,” he said of his sudden shortage of hookers.

“When we get (Brock) Eldridge back on the right side we’ll be pretty lethal on both sides.”

Seagulls face Wests Panthers at Salter Oval next Sunday at 3pm.
