Man to appear in court tomorrow following raids which uncovered drugs, guns and stolen items.
A 39-YEAR-OLD Redridge man is due to appear in Childers Magistrates Court tomorrow in relation to raids conducted in the area.
Childers officer-in-charge Sergeant Geoffrey Fay said the man had been charged with the possession of dangerous drugs, possession of tainted property and possession of utensils in connection with the use of dangerous drugs following a search of his premises.
“Police located 328g of cannabis, 1.9g of ice, a number of pipes, a large amount of cash and a .45 calibre automatic handgun,” he said.
Sgt Fay said at the time of the search the man had the handgun secreted in a lounge where he was seated and that the safety of the officers had been compromised at the time.
Police suspect the weapon was stolen or illegally obtained as all identifying numbers had been ground off.
“The seizure of the handgun is a great result as it is one less weapon that can be used against police and members of the community,” Sgt Fay said.
Sgt Fay said a 21-year-old woman from South Isis and a 48-year-old man from Cordalba had been ordered to undergo drug education after being caught with drugs and drug utensils.
“Police located a small amount of cannabis and utensils at both properties,” he said.
Sgt Fay said the operation followed information provided by members of the public to police and Crime Stoppers.
“This is all part of a continued investigation into the use and distribution of drugs in the Childers area,” he said.
“Unfortunately, there has been a spike in drug use in recent times.”
Sgt Fay said he urged people to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, Policelink on 131 444 or their local police station if they had information relating to illegal activity.
