Festival congratulations

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

NOW that the excitement of the 20th annual Childers Festival has subsided to some degree, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the people of the Childers area for their direct involvement. Thank you for sharing your beautiful town and for being so understanding regarding the inconvenience I am sure this weekend causes many residents. I know the Queensland Governor was particularly impressed with the festival, and the festival location, which simply has to be one of the best venues in the state for an event of this nature. The great suggestions from the Friends of the Festival that led to the Sugar Cane Tour and the Heritage Trail Tour resulted in extremely positive feedback from all who participated in these events. Opera Queensland and its Opera by the Lake at Lake Redbrook was a huge success and left the people attending clamouring for more. The success of the Sugar Cane Tour would not have been possible without the incredible support received from the Isis Central Sugar Mill directors, management and staff. This tour was a fantastic experience for all who attended. There is no doubt that the community of the Childers district fostered and shaped this wonderful festival, and Bundaberg Regional Council is proud to be able to continue presenting the Childers Festival for the free enjoyment of tens of thousands of visitors. The 20-year anniversary was a fitting time to acknowledge the creative prowess and organisational capabilities of Nancy Calder, who oversaw the festival through its formative years and into some of the best years the festival has experienced. Likewise, congratulations are in order to Wayne Thompson, who has been the “go to” man regarding the smooth operation of the festival over the years. The Childers Festival remains one of the most anticipated weekends on the region’s events calendar, and we look forward to sharing many more memorable moments in the years ahead. Cr Mal Forman,

Mayor, Bundaberg Regional Council
