AS THE South Kolan Sharks’ hunt for back-to-back Northern Districts Rugby League titles gains momentum, the Gin Gin Hawks pulled off one of the upsets of the season in the first round of the finals at Agnes Water.

As expected, South Kolan toughed out a win, 32-8 over the Magpies, securing a place in the August 23 decider.

Helmore couldn’t wait for the game this week and said he expects plenty of feeling. “Miriam Vale and Gin Gin go way back – it’s going to be a bash fest,” he said.

“We are going to have to step it up if we want to play in the grand final.” enough and if they want to win consecutive titles they had to improve in that area.

He quickly praised the effort against Miriam Vale, which always lifts the Sharks, by saying there was plenty of big collisions during the match but his
