The com­mu­nity of Gin Gin has cer­tainly em­braced its very own com­mu­nity ra­dio sta­tion, and its suc­cess is guar­an­teed for years to come.

“Lo­cal news is aired ev­ery week­end, and lis­ten­ers are ad­vised of up­com­ing com­mu­nity events and no­tices three times a day,” Mrs Var­ity said.

The Web­site – gin­gin­sown1049fm.org has a de­tailed Com­mu­nity Events Cal­en­dar, and visi­tors to the site can check the pro­gramme guide, read each pre­sen­ter’s bi­og­ra­phy and for those pre­sen­ters who have an “Amrap” page, can look at re­cent playlists trans­mis­sion area.

Mrs Jules Ver­ity, sta­tion sec­re­tary, said Gin Gin’s Own 104.9 FM’s fun­da­men­tal belief is, the ra­dio sta­tion is run purely for the ben­e­fit of lo­cal Gin Gin lis­ten­ers. “Most pre­sen­ters have its faith­ful fans who phone up regularly ask­ing for re­quests,” she said.

Shows are al­tered to meet the needs of lis­ten­ers and sur­veys are con­ducted from time to time to find out what more they could do for its GIN GIN has en­joyed its own com­mu­nity ra­dio sta­tion since Jan­uary 2009. Thanks to its loyal group of vol­un­teers, the sup­port of the lo­cal com­mu­nity and busi­nesses, the sta­tion has ex­panded.

Last year was a mile­stone year for the sta­tion. In Jan­uary, the ACMA granted the sta­tion a long-term li­cence, and in May, a trans­mit­ter was in­stalled on the wa­ter tower in May Street, ex­pand­ing the
