No discount applied
BUNDABERG Regional Council is requesting all pensioners who have a non-desexed dog to carefully check the registration renewal notice following a system error which saw a small percentage of notices distributed with incorrect fee totals.
Cr Wayne Honor said the error affected about 370 of the more than 15,000 renewal notices.
“As a result, a number of people may receive a registration renewal notice without the correct pensioner discount applied,” Cr Honor said.
“Council has issued letters to all of the affected residents to explain that, while they may receive a renewal notice for $70, the correct fee for a non-desexed dog with a pensioner discount is $46.
“We apologise for any inconvenience which this unforeseen circumstance may cause and thank those affected residents in advance for their understanding.”
Cr Honor said anyone who paid in person at the council or had registered to pay via BPAY VIEW would have the correct amount available to pay immediately.
Anyone who believes they have been charged the incorrect fee can contact the council on 1300 883 699.
Cr Honor said this year’s renewals would for the first time provide incentives for people to desex and microchip their dogs.
“Following community feedback, council has introduced new categories which reward dog owners who are doing the right thing,” he said.
