LAST Sunday we played host to Craignest, formerly Eagles Nest, for our annual trophy game with a hot breakfast to get them going but the results not so lucky. The weather was kind and warm but the reception from the trees for the visitors was not. It seems our trees are the best weapon against any outside club taking a trophy as they come into play on each and every hole. Craignest managed a credible 105.2 average gross score over the 18 but Childers managed a better 98.4 over the 18 giving us the trophy for another year. Best Gross for the Craignest people was John and best net was Judy and well done. The winner over the18 holes and the Mug Day Cup was that poor little old lady Marie Chapman, as if, with 57 net earning her a whopping 5.0 off her handicap to much applause and jibes from the members. Second was Chris Fitzsimons with 65 and losing 3.o off his handicap and with a loss of 1.7 was third place getter Diane Rowley. Peter Withers had the least putts with 24, the B Grade Approach on the 1st/10th was Bob Champney, the A Grade Longest drive to Col Dennet , the B Grade Longest drive to Paul McCarragher, Scotty White once again on the 4th/13th for the Nearest the Pin but not close enough to the Golden Circle of 1.52m. Hoss Eberl won the Combined Nearest the Pin on the 6th, Mick Ryan the Men’s Approach on the 15th and Terry Smallman the Combined Approach on the 7th/16th. Unfortunately our visitors missed out on the minor prizes but we were all rewarded with a great lunch with dessert after the game and thanks once again to Chris Fitzsimons for cooking the breakfast as well as the main meal and to that stalwart of the Social Club, Roz who just makes things go so well when we have a barbecue and to all those members who jump in and help with the preparation and the cleaning after the meals and Michael Stanton who mans the bar before and after the game. Next week we will play a Single Stableford over the Back Nine teeing off at 7.30am. An away game is being organised for November 8 at Hervey Bay Golf Course with a meal. Those wishing to participate please place your names on the list on the noticeboard. Those not on the list will be precluded from the game and meal as bookings are essential. Closes September 25. The list for Christmas dinner and game at Maryborough will be out next week. Those wishing to play please put your names down on the list as well as indicating whether you need a hire buggy or not. It will be 18 holes and a traditional Christmas meal after the game. Those supplying their own buggies will not have to pay but those who hire a buggy must pay the hire costs. Prizes for the day will be sponsored by CLUB CAR and Bill Long. Remember, if you haven’t played the required 10 games for the year then you will have to pay a pro rata cost for the day of $5 for every game less than 10 games. Closes November 22. Have a great week and see you on Sunday.
