Childers artists visit Gin Gin arts society
THE Childers Arts Council Visual Arts Group had an enjoyable day visiting the Gin Gin Fine Arts Society on Wednesday, September 16.
They set up paints, pastels and easels to capture the varying streetscape on a busy weekday in Gin Gin.
The Gin Gin artists made the guests feel welcome and prepared a morning tea on the veranda of the Old Courthouse Gallery.
The Gin Gin Courthouse Gallery proudly presents Centrefold by Alice McLaughlin and Kym Connell.
In 2013, the two artists embarked on a six-week artistic journey.
The pair had a goal to move away from their usual surroundings of Apple Tree Creek and Childers and concentrate on experiencing the unfamiliar, inspiring landscapes of Central Australia.
The trip was Ms McLaughlin’s third and Ms Connell’s first visit to the region.
Together they travelled with pastels, acrylics and drawing materials.
Both completed some works while they were away, as well as filling their journals with sketches and observations to be developed once they returned home. The pair took approximately 4000 photos to be used as sources for their work.
The exhibition runs from 26 September to 5 November. The community is encouraged to have a look at all the amazing sights of central Australia.
ARTS OPEN: The latest work by Alice McLaughlin, Shadows on the Sand, now on show at the Gin Gin Courthouse Gallery.
