The best in local tourism
Guided tours showcasing the region’s best wines and vineyards
CHILDERS Eco-lodge opened its doors, bringing a sustainable alternative to backpacker accommodation to the area.
Last year owners Vanessa and Rhys Kummerow claimed a Gold Queensland Tourism Award to celebrate its first birthday.
This year they are launching a guided wine tour around Childers’ four vineyards and wineries to celebrate the growing presence in the local tourism arena.
Owner Rhys Kummerow said: “We are pushing hard to showcase the amazing experiences people can have when they visit the Childers region.
“Offering a guided wine tour will appeal to domestic visitors looking for a weekend away, as well as groups looking for a unique activity.”
Highlighting the four unique stops on the tour, Mr Kummerow hopes the wine tour will boost people visiting the Hill of Promise, Brierley Wines, Ohana Winery and Vintner’s Secret Vineyard.
Off the Wagon Wine Tours will start on November 21.
Tours will include wine tasting at all venues, morning tea and lunch, an exotic fruit farm tour, and commentary on the region and the array of produce on offer.
Local discounts and group packages make it a great activity for visiting friends and relatives or Christmas parties.
On Friday, November 13, the Kummerows will be eagerly waiting results from the entry into the 2015 Queensland Tourism Awards Specialised Tourism Category.
“We see the awards as a way to shine the spotlight on Childers and the great experiences visitors can have to the region,” Mr Kummerow said.
The region is making a name for itself with a wide array of nature-based tourism activities on offer.
