Senior leaders and school captains to be announced
WHAT an absolute triumph the annual Arts Gala, Heroes and Villains at the Isis Cultural Centre was.
The evening was hosted by the school’s own hero and villain, Red Dirt Dude and Sugar.
They presented a variety of acts ranging from drama with a strong social message, dance, and vocalists and of course the school Band and Strings groups.
The evening was supported by an excellent art display of student work, delightful catering from hospitality students, and the P&C kept patrons refreshed at the drinks bar.
A special mention must be made for the superb work of Performing Arts co-ordinator Megan Gilsenan who so effectively organised the performance.
It was a fantastic evening and provided another opportunity for the community to feel very proud of their young people.
The process of determining student leadership for 2016 continues with the recent announcement of our senior leaders for next year.
Congratulations to those successful students and we look forward to your service to the school next year.
School captains will be announced at next week’s Awards Evening celebration.
Senior leaders 2016 include Bailey, Jordie, Lleyton, Victor, Thomas, Caleb, Simone, Billy, Thakdanai, Siobhan, Shay, Aleisha, Samantha, Georgia, Mollie and Laura.
Year 12 student Jasmin recently recorded a significant achievement when she was announced the Queensland winner in the Year 11-12 section of the National History Challenge.
Jasmin submitted a 3000-word essay, Leadership and Legacies, that contrasted Mahatma Gandhi and Saddam Hussein.
This academic work received outstanding reviews from the judges of this prestigious award.
The competition organiser also noted Jasmin must be taught by an excellent history teacher, and so the expertise and support of Ms McCulloch must be acknowledged.
Jasmin will receive her State award at a reception in Brisbane in early November at which she will attend with her parents and Ms McCulloch.
A wonderful achievement; congratulations Jasmin!
