Churchill St upgrade
THE final stage – Stage 6 of the Childers Streetscape is rapidly nearing completion six months after the main street upgrade commenced.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesman Cr Tony Ricciardi said around $1.2 million had been invested in the project which saw the footpaths and service lanes upgraded on both sides of the highway between McIlwraith and Broadhurst Sts.
“The project has succeeded in connecting the areas of the CBD that were completed in the original Streetscape design rollout and this area at the northern end of town.
“The local Chamber and traders in this area have long petitioned to have the area upgraded both from a beautification and a safety perspective. All the feedback I am receiving is that everyone is delighted with the result.”
Cr Ricciardi said the final asphalt seal was expected to be laid on November 1.
“That seal will take around a week to cure prior to line marking parking bays the following week,” he said.
“Some gardens and street furniture will also be installed.”
