Childers Com­merce lobby to re­duce coun­cil charges

THE Cham­ber lob­bied the coun­cil to re­duce the in­fra­struc­ture charges on newly cre­ated lots in the re­gion, with an em­pha­sis on un­ser­viced lots (no retic­u­lated wa­ter or sew­er­age).

This is the main type of devel­op­ment in our ru­ral ar­eas and the cur­rent charge of $20,160 was sti­fling devel­op­ment. The charges are now re­duced to $10,000.

The cham­ber will con­tinue its ef­forts to re­duce the charges for fully and par­tially ser­viced blocks as well.

RV Friendly Town: The cham­ber is fi­nal­is­ing road­side sig­nage to in­di­cate that Childers is an RV-Friendly town. The coun­cil has been asked to ap­prove free overnight park­ing at Cres­cent St carpark.

Twi­light Mar­kets: The Childers Twi­light Mar­kets in Mil­len­nium Park have been ap­proved by the coun­cil. The first mar­kets are planned for Fri­day early evening on Novem­ber 27. Isis Town & Coun­try: Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the NewsMail and IT&C in­formed the cham­ber that man­age­ment of the news­pa­per in­tends to con­tinue pub­li­ca­tion of Isis Town & Coun­try.
