Medical advice

Isis Town and Country - - News -

WOODGATE Men’s Shed hosted a health talk by fourth year medical student Kieren Barr.

The subject of the talk was skin cancers.

A great roll up of 34 attended, consisting of members, their partners, Childers Men’s Shed members and a couple of locals.

Kieran spoke for an hour with Q&A interspersed throughout with some very graphic pictures electronically generated on to the shed’s TV.

Sample tubes of 50+ sun screen lotion was available as well as leaflets on the subject.

The talk made attendees more aware of the urgency to have skin problems checked out, as some melanomas can develop quickly and may prove fatal if not treated.

While in Childers, Kieran was working with Childers Family Medicine, through the John Flynn Placement Program.

The next Shed Health Talk will be on Thursday, December 10, by Medical student Mary Good, on diabetes and sleep apnoea.

Thanks to Debbie Nicol for her assistance in organising these talks.
