EVERY mother’s nightmare is hearing those chilling words from the doctor – “there’s a problem with your baby”.

At her 12-week scan, Melissa Einam was informed of the serious condition her unborn child had.

The young mum was devastated by the news. She was pregnant with identical twin boys and she had major concerns and tough decisions to make regarding the wellbeing of her babies.

“It was a struggle and I had to go ahead with the surgeries to save my babies,” she said.

The surgeries had great risk and doctors had grave concerns that chances were very slim for both babies to survive.

“I was devastated when I lost one of my boys and we knew the other was going to have serious health issues,” Mrs Einam said.

Mrs Einam went into labour at 27 weeks, and with all the support from the hospital staff it couldn’t be stopped, and she delivered her son Hunter and he was rushed into intensive care.

Hunter has endured countless surgeries in his four years and his tiny body has become a pin cushion with weekly injections and doctors’ appointments.

“He sits through seven hours a night of dialysis as he only has 3% function in one kidney,” Mrs Einam said.

The brave young man, wearing his favourite fishing T-shirt, said he loved to go crabbing with his dad and enjoyed sucking the meat out of the crab legs.

“I like quad bikes and I ride it with my helmet on,” he said.

It has been a financial struggle for the young family as Hunter’s condition requires regular trips to Brisbane, with extended stays due to medical complications.

The Childers Buffalo Lodge was made aware of Hunter’s condition and raised funds to support his battle. Club president John Buckingham said they had raised $500 to assist in the costs for Hunter.

“We help support locals in time of need and Hunter truly needs support,” he said.

The young mum thanked the supporters at the Grand Hotel last Friday for the generous donation to Hunter.

She was holding back tears as she was handed the cheque. The presentation was delayed a week as Hunter had a bad day medically which prevented them attending.

“Our plans always change as Hunter’s health is my main concern,” Mrs Einam said.

Ash Warry won Friday’s treasure chest raffle and kindly donated $100 from his winnings to Hunter.
