Thank you for support

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

THE Childers and District Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Association Inc would like to take the opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you for the massive support most members of the Childers community have given to us in recent months while we have been trying to fight for the agricultural education of our young people at the Isis District State High School. After months of frustration and tears there has been a compromise between the council and Education Queensland. While it is a significant compromise, it is still not the greatest – but our young people will be able to continue having the animals at the school and will be able to complete their certificate 2. I would like to thank Sandra Webb, Tracey Jackson, Allan Cook, Julie Green, Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers, Growcom, Debbie Williamson, and Mary Walsh OAM – but mostly the members of the community of Childers who have rang me, hugged me, dried my tears and encouraged me to fight on. To the members of our association: thank you for your trust in me. Our works with the ag section of our high school and the primary schools that feed into the high school will continue. The winners here are our students – the young people who have shown how much they love ag/rural studies and the same young people have been feeling very, very sad since the pens have started to come down. I understand there has been a lot of tears and angst among the students who had already elected to become part of the ag studies, I hope we have been able to show you that we care. We care about you and your education and we will be there to support this program and you into the future. Thank you to those who gave us any support – we do so appreciate it all on behalf of our students. Donna Duncan OAM Childers
