Men’s shed welcomed lease

Other sites offered were not rejected by association

Isis Town and Country - - News - By ROB DIGHT CHILDERS MEN’S SHED PRESIDENT

IT’S good news that we can finally begin work to build a permanent home for the Childers District Men’s Shed following the official withdrawal of the appeal lodged with the Planning and Environment Court by the Childers & District Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association.

Now that the appeal is no longer before the courts, it perhaps is an appropriate time to share the following information which should clarify some of the more obvious misunderstandings.

In the past the shed had been offered a number of sites in the town by the council and the Mill – none of which were rejected by the Men’s Shed.

So you can understand that we, as an Association, welcomed and accepted the offer of a lease on 3a North Street as Council were planning a Material Change of Use on these properties to Sports & Recreation (the Men’s Shed comes into that category as a Meeting Place for the community).

The Childers District Men’s Shed Association holds a 10 year lease on Lot 3a North Street and, despite the lengthy delay plans are well advanced and we should see the beginnings of development in the very near future.

The Childers District Men’s Shed Association Inc is a not for profit registered charity committed to developing a facility the whole community can benefit from.

Shed membership continues to grow and we are aware of many potential members just waiting for a permanent home to be built.

I thank the shed members for their patience and also the residents, businesses and service clubs of the Childers community for their continued quiet, but much appreciated, backing and encouragement over the last 10 months.

Public support at our sausage sizzles at Woolworths and raffles held in the main street has always been strong and positive.
