GOLF

MEN AND WOMEN

THE captains decided to end the official season with a single stableford competition, with which most golfers agreed, as the scores indicate. Unfortunately the round had to be limited to nine holes as the steady drizzle persisted during the afternoon. Mark McAulay led the way with 22 points from John Cole on 21 points, second on a countback from Larry Pershouse. Rundowns went to a number of players, the best of which were Bill Herring, Roger Draper, Michael Stanton and Robyn Robinson (19 points each). Vicki McAulay, Fiona Dowling, Joan Kelly and Joy Cartner also shared in the rundowns. Fiona (1.05m) won the ladies’ approach on 6&15; Bill Herring (5.4m)) the A Division pinshot on 1&10; Mark McAulay (1.09m) the B Division approach on the same hole; Bob Champney (1.49m) the B Division pinshot on 4&13. The ladies celebrated the end of their season with a special Christmas luncheon instead of their usual Thursday round. Remember that during the unofficial season, members are invited to play in the BBB competitions every Saturday (12.30pm hit-off), every Tuesday (noon hit-off); and on public holidays (12.30pm).

VETS

ELIGIBLE members played the final of the VIP stroke competition, while others present for the final day of official Vets’ competitions for 2015 enjoyed an overflow stroke competition. The VIP winner for 2015 is Rusty Usmar whose 68 net earned him the special Vets’ VIP shirt and his name on the shield. However, his achievement was overshadowed by Dave Robinson’s 64 net to be the overall winner of the day’s competition. Ray Walker was runner-up on 68, on a countback from Rusty, with further rundowns to Val Plath, Terry Smallman, Ted Buckland, Ken Albion (69 each), Peter Hrelja and Vicki Wyeth (70). Roger Draper won the lucky draw prize. Kev Savage (0.21m) won the Men’s approach on 1&10; Dave Robinson (in the hole) the Combined approach on 4&13; and Val Plath (0.10m) the Women’s approach on 6&15. Chook Run winners were: Ray Groves (26), Dave Robinson (28), John Henderson, Mark McAulay (29), Bob Werne, Ted Buckland and Ed Connell (31) on spins. Members enjoyed the after-game treats prepared by our special and appreciated ladies and the extensive range of prizes both for the raffle and the competition. To all Vets, enjoy a happy and peaceful Christmas and a Vets’ Christmas lunch, and we look forward to welcoming you all back for 2016, fit and well. Remember the club runs a BBB competition on Tuesdays during the unofficial season.

SOCIAL

BEFORE I write the results of today’s game I would personally like to thank those people who have made my tenure as captain a bit easier. Bill Long and CLUB Car for sponsoring several away games during the year, Bill Kirchhof of Isis Interior Linings, who supplies the Prize for the Golden Circle competition during the year, John Whitford from Drummond Golf and THATMOSIS Web Design, all of who sponsor the club’s web page. Thanks also to Chris Fitzsimons, who diligently runs the early morning Sunday Brekkie Club where our hungry members can get a $2 egg and bacon sanger before the game and who puts all the proceeds back into the club. A special thank you to those same people who week in and week out do the bins and make sure we leave the clubhouse tidy and to those who help in the kitchen each and every barbecue day preparing and serving the meals and cleaning up afterwards. A special thanks to Ed Connell, who tirelessly puts the prize markers and boxes out on the holes each and every Sunday and who also runs around collecting them after the game when people forget to bring them in, they all contribute to making my life easier and ensure the day and the club runs smoothly. A special thanks to Jodie Dixon and the staff, past and present, at Isis Town and Country for running our results each week and for allowing me to contribute a golf page to the paper and some stories about the club as a whole. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to one and all. My last official act as captain of the Social Golf Club was officiating at the President’s Day 3 Club Event where the players are restricted to only three clubs in the bag including the putter, a challenge for some but it seems a doddle for others. Len (I never win anything) Stallard with 30 won the day from Bob Champney on 33 and Dave Durie on 34 along with 3 other players. Len also took out the least putts with 12. The B Grade Approach on the 1st was won by Margaret Dennett and the A grade Nearest the Pin on the 1st by Dave Durie. Bob Walker won the B grade Longest Drive with Domonic Mete taking out the Combined Nearest the Pin on the 6th. The new committee was sworn in with Chris Fitzsimons being elected president, Len Stallard vice-president, Marg Dennett secretary, Diane Rowley treasurer, Leigh Hart captain, Col Dennett vice-captain and handicapper all unopposed. Good luck for next year and congratulations. There will now be a break from competition, which will resume on January 10 at 7.30am.
