With the “adorkable” tagline referring to series’ protagonist Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel, right) now a welcome distant memory, this show continues to be loveable without the corny adjectives. Priding itself on its characters’ weird and wacky behaviour, you’ll often find yourself raising your eyebrows at the comedy’s plots. Humour is often favoured over believability, and that’s OK. In “Goldmine”, Nick (Jake Johnson) pretends to be gay so that Jess’s new boyfriend might feel less threatened. Meanwhile, Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.) is annoyed at Winston (Lamorne Morris) for working his long game on two good-looking neighbours.
