END OF AN ERA
AFTER 11 years of tireless fundraising at the Grand Hotel, the Buffalo Lodge has handed over the raffles to the hotel.
Buffalo Lodge secretary John Buckingham said it was the end of an era for those at the Grand and the lodge members would like to thank the community and the hotel for all the support over the years.
“It has been decided to hand over the reins to the hotel’s licensees Dennis and Pam Corliss, who will operate the raffles independently,” Mr Buckingham said.
The Friday afternoon raffles started back in June 2004 with the opening of the A.J Pearson Childers Lodge number 150 with a small table set up in the main street of Childers.
The raffle, over the years, developed into one of the Buffalo Lodge’s major fundraising projects.
Mr Buckingham occupied the window seat inside the Grand Hotel for the past five years, with many locals popping their heads through the window to buy tickets.
Over the 11 years the funds raised have supported hundreds of locals in need and the Lodge estimates $70,000 has been donated by the Lodge.
“Thanks to all our sponsors for the endless support over the years and especially the hotel patron’s who have made this raffle the tremendous success it has evolved into.
“I take with me wonderful memories of all the people and events that have transpired over the years.”
Mr Buckingham said he had made many great friendships being part of the Buffalo Lodge weekly raffle at the pub and would cherish the memories for years to come.
“I would like to personally thank Childers for supporting the raffles.
“It’s a long list of charities that have kindly donated prizes over the years.
“When one door closes another door opens and we will be holding new raffles, starting this Friday.”
The Buffalo Lodge has a new venue to supports its charity fundraising, starting tomorrow afternoon.
“We are very pleased to announce the Childers RSL have kindly welcomed us into their venue,” Mr Buckingham said.
The Buffalo Lodge invites residents to call into the RSL every Friday to enjoy the excitement of the Buffalo Lodge raffles.
“The raffles will start at 5pm and we hope to continue our charity fundraising for the Childers community,” he said.
I would like to personally thank Childers for supporting the raffles.
