THE last of the off season BBBs has been held and members look forward to the coming official golf season. However, on Saturday last Clinton Dowling won the single stableford competition with 36 points from Cynthia Draper on 34 points, with rundowns to Robyn Robinson and Michael Stanton on 33 points. On Tuesday a large field arrived to compete in the last BBB for the moment, remembering that BBBS will continue throughout the year on public holidays. The winner was Bob Champney with 40 points from Bill Herring on 37 points, with rundowns to Kev Denham and Dave Robinson both on 36 points. Dave put his second shot in the hole on 4&13 to win the combined approach with rundowns to Bill Herring (0.17m), Ray Walker (0.18m) and Keith Rule (0.26m). Opening day for the official 2016 season has arrived at last, the competition being sponsored again by Peter and Narelle Russo. This year we as usual open with a two-person Ambrose, an opportunity to invite friends or acquaintances to enjoy a game of golf and, if not a member, the opportunity to win free membership for the 2016 golfing year. Our current Men’s open Champion and Medal of Medallists for 2015, Clinton Dowling, will open the new season by hitting the first drive from the favoured number one tee. Welcome to all members and intending members.
We had 19 players for our annual two-person Ambrose event played over 18 holes; this is played at the beginning of each season. The winners (burglars) for the day were Nigel Ison and Dominic Mete with an impressive score of 60 ¾. Second place went to Terry Smallman and Marg Dennett with 65 and third place going to Paul McGarragher and Michael Stanton who came in with 67. It was much to the handicapper’s disappointment that he couldn’t cut anyone as nearly all players came in well under par. A-grade nearest the pin on the 1/10 hole went to Col Dennett, with the B-grade approach on the 1/10 hole going to Rohnda Zahn. The combined nearest the pin on the 4/13 hole went to Paul McGarragher who is now the holder of the golden circle at 2.95m. The combined nearest the pin on the 6th and the men’s Approach on the 15th both went to Nigel Ison who happened to birdie both. The combined nearest the pin on the 7/16 hole went to bob Champney. The combined longest drive went to Hoss Eberl. The new challenge, which we are going to call the Center Fairway shot, went to Col Dennett. After the game the players were treated to finger food and a light barbecue lunch. Thank you to all who helped out preparing the food and cleaning up. On behalf of the social club I would like to wish Bill Long a get well soon, after undergoing an operation on his knees. Next week we will be teeing off at 7.30am for a Stableford on the back nine and as always visitors and new members are welcome.
