Childers Scouts sign-on

Isis Town and Country - - News -

A SIGN-ON day for the Childers Scout Group is set for Saturday, February 6.

In much the same way as sporting clubs hold a sign-on day at the beginning of each season, new scouts across the state will “sign up” this weekend.

Childers group leader Bob Edmiston said the event was a great opportunity for children and parents to find out if scouting suited them.

“There will be opportunities to experience scouting activities and talk to leaders and members about their scouting experiences,” Mr Edmiston said.

Scouts is a worldwide organisation for youth aged from six to 26 years.

It teaches social and leadership skills through challenges and outdoor adventure.

The program follows the school calendar year, with activities held on weekends and during school holidays.

Scouts Queensland chief commissioner Kirsty Brown reported there were more than 15,000 adult and youth member scouts in Queensland.

“Scouting traditions have been in Australia for over 100 years and we have developed a strong, fun program based on the needs of today’s youth,” she said.

The sign-on for Childers Scout Group is on February 6 from 10am–2pm at its premises on the corner of Gaydon and Lord Sts.
