THE Woodgate Men’s Shed has held another health talk, this time on joint replacement and delivered by Hil Yin Choi, a final-year medical student and qualified physiotherapist.
Hil gave an informative talk on hip and knee replacements and the necessity to carry out the required exercises post-op.
Question and answers were interspersed with the different stages of the subject.
Hil has finished his time in Childers and is now doing a six-month stint in Townsville before returning to Melbourne for his final semester and exams.
The medical students, hosted by Childers Family Medicine, are part of the John Flynn Placement Programme which encourages medical students to become involved with the local community and eventually become rural doctors.
During the past 12 months the Men’s Shed has had talks on skin cancers, sleep apnoea and diabetes, metabolic syndrome/strokes and heart condition, depression, as well as talks on organ donors, hearing aids, a talk about the functions of The Public Curator encompassing Power of Attorney, free wills, investments etc.
All talks are open to the public at no charge.
