THE Woodgate Men’s Shed has held an­other health talk, this time on joint re­place­ment and de­liv­ered by Hil Yin Choi, a fi­nal-year med­i­cal stu­dent and qual­i­fied phys­io­ther­a­pist.

Hil gave an in­for­ma­tive talk on hip and knee re­place­ments and the ne­ces­sity to carry out the re­quired ex­er­cises post-op.

Ques­tion and an­swers were in­ter­spersed with the dif­fer­ent stages of the sub­ject.

Hil has fin­ished his time in Childers and is now do­ing a six-month stint in Townsville be­fore re­turn­ing to Mel­bourne for his fi­nal se­mes­ter and ex­ams.

The med­i­cal stu­dents, hosted by Childers Fam­ily Medicine, are part of the John Flynn Place­ment Pro­gramme which en­cour­ages med­i­cal stu­dents to be­come in­volved with the lo­cal com­mu­nity and even­tu­ally be­come ru­ral doc­tors.

Dur­ing the past 12 months the Men’s Shed has had talks on skin can­cers, sleep ap­noea and di­a­betes, meta­bolic syn­drome/strokes and heart con­di­tion, de­pres­sion, as well as talks on or­gan donors, hear­ing aids, a talk about the func­tions of The Pub­lic Cu­ra­tor en­com­pass­ing Power of At­tor­ney, free wills, in­vest­ments etc.

All talks are open to the pub­lic at no charge.
