POLICE are asking people living near the Bruce Hwy between Childers and Apple Tree Creek to be on the lookout for a man who may be able to help with their inquiries into an incident on Tuesday.

About 7.30pm, a vehicle suspected stolen from Rockhampton was travelling south on the Bruce Hwy when it came to the attention of a police crew from Childers.

Shortly after, the car and a police vehicle were involved in a traffic crash and a man got out of the stolen car and fled into bushland.

Police from Maryborough and Bundaberg – including the dog squad – attended the scene.

Police are asking anyone who lives in the area between Childers and Apple Tree Creek to secure their vehicles and report any suspicious activity.

The circumstances of the crash are yet to be determined, but the police officer involved was not injured.

It is understood both vehicles have been damaged.

Anyone with information which could help with the matter are asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.

For all non-urgent police reporting or general police inquiries contact Policelink on 131 444 or Policelink.qld.gov.au.
