Higher standard needed from our leaders

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion - Adrian Wone Bundaberg

IF BUNDABERG is to break free of the continuing downward spiral of our local economy and youth unemployment figures we must demand a higher standard from our elected leaders. We need to find people of substance and ideas to make a difference. In the end we get the kind of governance we deserve and the coming local government elections is a good time to start to stop the rot. We pay these people well to represent us. So why do we continue to get so many “sleepers” elected? Time perhaps, people, to start asking the candidates what precisely are their plans for Bundaberg’s future before we elect them. Failed past politicians and “trust me” candidates don’t do much for me. Give me a plan of action – a vision perhaps – for the next few years of your employment with us and then I will consider a vote for you. Until then my vote will continue to go straight to the rubbish bin. Voters – if you want the fat cats of the world designing our future then be prepared for more and more of Australia to disappear.
