A coat to cover all our journeys
Artist Jo Williams hopes to inspire with latest exhibition
A FITTING event at a fitting location, Childers Arts Space proudly welcomed artist Jo Williams to the gallery to showcase her latest exhibition titled Coats.
The exhibition sits in the warm glow of the Palace Memorial and last Friday evening friends and fans of Ms Williams supported their fellow artist with her grand opening event.
Patrons strolled from picture to picture reading the journey on which Ms Williams takes you.
Ms Williams said she was very nervous leading up the opening.
“I was worried no one would show up and I would be left here standing on my own,” she said.
The talented artist said she would like to see more people come to the gallery and to have a look.
“I want people to be inspired and be open to new ideas and I hope my work does that,” she said.
The gallery guests were treated to the mellow sounds of the talented Hae-win Sian.
Her soft, calming voice filled the gallery.
The solo performer sat on the gallery veranda entertaining guests as her music was the live soundtrack to complement the art.
Guests were treated to a supper and drinks and the hard-working and dedicated volunteers greeted each guest on arrival.
“Thanks to all that attended and assisted in putting the exhibition together, a special thank you to Edwina and her entire team,” Ms Williams said.
“Childers has many talented artists and I hope more display their work,”
Ms Williams has organised a tour of her studio in Howard, set to depart today at 9am. For more information contact the gallery directly.
AFTER an eight-week break, the active Childers Arts Council Visual Arts Group met at Alice and Alex McLaughlin’s home.
The first day attendance was excellent, as new members joined the arts group. Many of the artists spoke of “art withdrawal” during the break.
The solitary painting and sculpturing doesn’t get the creative juices flowing as mixing with happy, like-minded people will inspire.
Alice has on offering “life drawing” demonstrations. Feel free to join the group Thursdays from 9am-3pm.
