Isis Town and Country - - Kolan News -

MAY is the month set down for this year’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention awareness campaign with a month of activities to be hosted by Childers and Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centres.

A council spokesman said the neighbourhood centres experienced first-hand the impacts of domestic violence on the community.

“Our neighbourhood centres are community hubs which are recognised for the safe space they provide to anyone in need,” the spokesman said.

The State Government has provided $3000 for activities to be held in Gin Gin and Childers under its 2016 Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month Community Grants program.

By providing a visual campaign, these activities will challenge and educate people about Family and Domestic Violence while providing them with information, the spokesman said.

By showing community support for this initiative, the council hopes to empower people to speak out about the issue and eradicate it from our communities once and for all.

Each neighbourhood centre will run a month-long campaign throughout May.

Community events have been planned to be held on May 13 in Childers and May 18 in Gin Gin.
