His­tor­i­cal so­ci­ety needs vol­un­teers

EV­ERY Satur­day morn­ing the hard-work­ing and ded­i­cated team of vol­un­teers fire up the BBQ Hut at the Gin Gin His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety mar­kets and mu­seum.

The sweet smell of the Hut draws in the early-morn­ing crowd in search of break­fast.

Sec­re­tary of the mar­kets and mu­seum Hetty Mois said they were in des­per­ate need of more vol­un­teers.

“If we don’t get more staff to help out on Satur­day morn­ing, the mar­kets will only be on once a month,” she said.

The Gin Gin mar­kets are busy ev­ery week­end and the BBQ Hut is the first stop for many.

“Our team is on the go from the mo­ment the mar­ket opens,” Hetty said.

“I am cur­rently un­em­ployed and have spent the past two years work­ing as a vol­un­teer for the mar­kets and mu­seum.

“I am hop­ing oth­ers will sup­port us as we strug­gle to have enough staff for the job.”

The vol­un­teers are friendly and are wel­com­ing to new vol­un­teers.

“We of­fer all our vol­un­teers at the BBQ Hut a free break­fast and two free drinks,” Hetty said.

The com­mu­nity-run mar­kets need the sup­port of lo­cals.

The friendly vol­un­teers en­joys the busy morn­ings.
