Fighting for nationals
CHAMPION kids in Childers are on the rise as another young local has been selected to represent the state in sport.
Austin Savage boxed his way to the top to book a spot on the Queensland team for the national title in boxing last Saturday night in front of a huge crowd in Brisbane.
Proud father Jim Savage said he beat another top young boxer from Mackay to qualify for the nationals.
“The national titles are a huge tournament, runs for five days and is as big as it gets,” Jim said.
“Austin is without a doubt Australia’s number one in his weight and age division,”
Austin dedicates all his spare time to training and is aiming high in the sport.
Mr Savage is asking for cash donations to ensure his son gets to the nationals.
The cost to get champions to events puts tension on budgets and the family is looking for help.
“I’m desperate to raise at least $1000 before then to make sure he competes,” Mr Savage said.
