Orchids on show in Childers

Prized plants on display

Isis Town and Country - - News -

ORCHID growers from across Queensland gathered up their prized plants and headed to Childers last weekend for the Autumn Charity Show.

The spectacular flowers were in full bloom for this year’s event.

Publicity officer of the Childers and Isis District Orchid Society Fay Partridge said last year’s event was a great success and this year was even bigger.

“We set up the displays Friday at the cultural centre and the judging started at 7pm,” she said.

“It was a great event and we had more people through the doors than last year.”

Keen growers and gardeners had the opportunity to watch live potting demonstrations and gain useful tips for growing orchids at home.

“We had a constant stream of guests wandering around and buying some fabulous plants.”

Mrs Partridge said the group was this year raising funds for Queensland Care flight Helicopter.

“It’s a great service and we are happy to donate to a great service,” she said.

“Our entrants were of the highest of standards with a great variety of plants to be judged. Thanks to all the organisers and congratulations to all of this year’s winners.”
