Helen’s Question:

Can you tell me what smudging is and what it is used for?

Spirit Answer:

Smudging has been used by indigenous peoples all over the world to clear energy, enhance vibrational levels of individuals and dwellings, and to help create a stronger connection to spirit. Smudging is an excellent way to clear negative or heavy energies within a home or person, lifting vibrational energy to create a calming, balanced and peaceful environment. Dwellings can retain energies of people who previously resided there, and if the energy is not balanced then conflicts within the family or individuals can occur for no apparent reasons. Smudging will help bring peace back into the home environment, thus lifting the energy of all who reside or enter the home.

I was given this method of smudging by Spirit many years ago and always use it for myself personally or for others when their energy levels are low. I use White Sage, the traditional Native American herb, but have used gum leaves as the Aboriginal peoples do.

SMUDGING.

Always start outside. Light Sage, then turning in a circle call in:

The Spirit of the East and the Spirit of Air; The Spirit of the South and the Spirit of Fire; The Spirit of the West and the Spirit of Water; The Spirit of the North and the Spirit of Earth to be with you now.

Always smudge yourself first, going around your body, and above your head. Then enter the home and walking in a circle around the house, ask that only love, light and peace reside within these walls.

Make sure you do every room.

You should end up where you started from.
