Heritage Week display at the Childers library
AUSTRALIAN Heritage Week is an annual national celebration of Australia’s unique heritage.
It is an opportunity for all Australians to join together to celebrate the region’s rich history and old buildings.
Australian Heritage Week will run from April 17 to 24.
Childers librarian Denise Rapkins said the library would have many great displays, highlighting the heritage of Childers.
“We have many historical buildings and a rich history, it’s the ideal time to acknowledge our history,” Mrs Rapkins said.
“The Childers Library will be running a PowerPoint of photos from around the region all week, in an ongoing display.
“I will also have a display of old maps for interested locals to come in and have a look.”
On the morning of April 21 at 10am the library will host a guest speaker, Shirley Oakman, who will be talking about the research involved in producing her books.
“Mrs Oakman’s books are about the local soldiers who served in WWI,” she said.
“It is great reading and I am sure many locals will be interested in the topic.”
The community is invited to visit the library during Heritage Week and to enjoy the interactive displays.
“The library also has its own computers set up with access to Ancestors.com and is free for the community to use,” Mrs Rapkins said.
The Childers library this year will continue to host more events to educate and entertain all ages.
