Artists draw on inspiring outback journey
THE latest exhibition to show at Childers Arts Space is titled Centrefold, featuring the talents of local artists Alice McLaughlin and Kym Connell.
Centrefold’s opening event was held last Friday evening in front of an excited crowd.
Local artists and visitors strolled the gallery admiring the pair’s work.
Alice and Kym are both well-known artists in our region and Centrefold is the result of a six-week adventure to Central Australia in 2013.
The talented artists were inspired by the colours and the various landscapes they encountered on their journey.
Alice McLaughlin said it was wonderful to undertake the trip together.
“We each responded quite differently to the landscape,” she said.
“It was great to have someone to bounce ideas off while away, and when we arrived home.”
Since they returned, the pair have produced numerous art pieces reflecting the experience of their artistic journey.
“Our journey has been a continual source of inspiration for nearly three years now,” Alice said.
Kym Connell said they were so glad they made the trip as it had given them an ongoing source of material for their work.
Their art will be on show at Childers Art Space until May 29.
