Jack and Virginia look back over 60 years

Isis Town and Country - - News -

SATURDAY was a very special day for Jack and Virginia Harney as they celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss.

Jack and Virginia met at a dance in Home Hill in 1953, when Jack was working in the Burdekin, planting cane in the off-season and cutting during the crush.

They were engaged on Christmas Eve, 1954, and were married on 28 April, 1956.

Their wedding was a huge family affair with guests travelling great distances to attend.

Virginia wore a stunning, lacy gown and was attended by three bridesmaids in pale lemon, carrying red roses.

After honeymooning on Green Island, off Cairns, the couple returned to North Isis so Jack could work on his family farm.

He inherited a share of the property and bought out his siblings. They raised two sons, Peter and Terry.

The family has grown to now include two daughters-in-law, Sharon and Roxanne; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
